Why I Stopped Obsessing Over “Clean Eating” and Started Listening to My Body

For a long time, I believed that “clean eating” meant perfection—strict rules, constant judgment, never slipping up. But what I learned is that that energy was doing more harm than good to my skin, mood, and overall wellness.
Over time, I shifted from obsession to instinct. Instead of chasing what I thought was “perfect,” I began listening deeply to what my body was telling me, not my emotions. When I did that, my skin glowed more, inflammation calmed, and I felt free—free from guilt, free from rigid “musts.” There is a lot of conflicting information on the internet.
In this post, I share how I made that shift, what it means for my clean pantry, and how I use tools & rituals like the Glow Up Trio and Revitalizing Body Oil to honor my body more gently.
What “Clean Eating” Was Doing to Me
- It meant strict rules: no slip-ups, comparing meals, feeling shame when I couldn’t find perfect ingredients
- It led me to focus on labels, grenades of “good” vs “bad” foods rather than how I felt inside
- I thought “clean” = “healthy”, but I noticed my body becoming reactive, puffier, my digestion upset, energy spikey
This obsession created tension—not ease. I realized that when I let go of rigid clean‑eating, I could see what truly nourished me—what worked for my body, skin, my digestion, my peace.
What Listening to My Body Looks Like
Here’s how I changed direction:
Old Habit |
New Way I Move With My Body |
Eliminating entire food groups because someone said they’re “bad” |
I notice how I feel after eating; I remove what causes skin flare‑ups or discomfort (soy, gluten, legumes, nightshades, dairy, processed seed oils) |
Measuring macros, counting ingredients |
I focus on meals that feel satisfying—meals that make my skin glow or feel calm, not stressed |
Stressing over “imperfections” in my pantry |
I prioritize easy staples: olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, simple herbs, nourishing fats |
Believing every meal must be “perfect” |
I allow meals that are joyful, nourishing, simple. Even if something isn’t “perfect,” if I feel good, that’s what matters |
How My Pantry & Tools Reflect That Shift
My pantry and self‑care tools became part of the listening journey. They support me physically and energetically:
- My clean pantry is stocked with items that truly serve me—no hidden additives, no processed seed oils, no dairy or gluten
- When I cook a meal I feel good about, I use tools like the Glow Up Trio after: dry brushing, body oil massage, gua sha—to help my skin absorb, to support circulation, to honor what I put in my body
- On days when I feel more inflammation or sensitivity, I reduce meals, lean into lighter foods made with my staples.
What I’ve Noticed Since Letting Go of Obsession
- My skin is less reactive; fewer flare-ups, less puffiness
- My energy is steadier; I don’t feel guilt around food or pantry “mistakes”
- My mindset around meals shifted—from worry to gratitude
- Self‑care habits feel more integrated: food, tools, rituals work together—not as separate tasks
How I Listen, Not Force
Here are some practices I use to stay in tune:
- Check in after meals — how does my skin feel? energy? mood?
- Simple pantry swaps — choosing foods that feel good, not ones chasing someone else’s standard
- Ritualizing self‑care with my wellness tools when I need reset: Revitalizing Body Oil, DIAMANDIA Body Gua Sha, Dry Brushing, Body Scrubs, gratitude
- Allowing rest — if my digestion or skin is sensitive, I slow my meals, reduce stimuli, cook gentle food
Honoring Nourishment Over Perfection
There is no “one right way”—there is your way. Listening to your body means giving attention to what your skin, gut, mood are telling you. It means choosing food, tools, oils that support you—not that burden you.
If you are tired of chasing perfect meals, of reading labels warily, of feeling guilty—know that you can shift. You can begin with small choices. Let the clean pantry, the oils, the rituals you love, guide you into alignment.
